A Campaign to "Roll Out" a New Dance Floor!   Help us bring flamenco theater to more people!

We are very excited to announce a new Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a portable dance floor that we can take with us to theatrical venues!

Why do we need a portable dance floor?  Have you ever seen a live flamenco performance? Or rather, have you ever heard one?

Flamenco dancers create percussion with our feet: we wear shoes with small nails in the soles of the toes and heels to create the loud sounds that reflect the strength, or fuerza, of flamenco dance.

It's energizing! It's exciting! It's troubling for theater owners!

Theaters are eager to present Caló Gitano performances, but reluctant to do so because of the potential damage our shoes can cause to the stage. We totally get it. (You should see our feet.)

A portable dance floor solves this problem, and more: we can perform at different venues, presenting more performances in new places. A traveling floor brings more dancing to everyone!

Our goal is to raise $2,573, to purchase two rolls of Adagio Tour protective dance floor coverings, the tape to hold the flooring down, plus shipping.  Portable dance floors that cover enough space for large scale theater productions are not cheap, and Caló Gitano Dance Company members volunteer their time, talent, and creative direction for all performances. Ticket sales cover our cost of operations, and we're relying on your generosity to purchase a dance floor. With your help, our dance company and academy will continue to grow and entertain audiences all over our state and beyond!

Can't wait to watch us perform? Join us! Donate today and enjoy one of our many perks involving dance lessons and flamenco parties! Our perks are transferrable, and make great gifts, too.

To contribute to our portable dance flooring campaign, please go here.   Thank you, and Ole'!

Camarón "When Flamenco Became Legend" (2005)

This movie tells the true-life story of Camarón de la Isla (Jaenada), the legendary Spanish flamenco cantaor who many consider to be the greatest flamenco singer of all time. The film covers Camarón's life and his music, from Camarón's humble beginnings to his meteoric rise in the flamenco world and his untimely death in 1992. The movie also explores the important personal and professional relationships that Camarón developed throughout his life that left a lasting impression, not only on Camarón, but also on the entire world of flamenco -- including his relationship with his wife La Chispa (Sánchez) and his professional relationships with guitarists Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, and Paco Cepero that produced some of the most groundbreaking work that the flamenco world has ever seen.

RAICES, is the spellbinding tale passed down from generation to generation by wise Gypsy storytellers. The story is both timeless and magical. It has endured throughout history to give everlasting life to the journey of the Gypsies. Their ancient tale, heard through music and dancing, speaks of the hearts of Gitanos across time.

ZORRO - All of the legendary swashbuckling action, dashing romance, amazing Gipsy Kings music, and stunning flamenco artistry will be happening right in front of you on one of the most spectacular sets the Alliance has ever built. And you'll laugh all the way through it thanks to the sly wit of the "Masked Fox."

Special thanks to Cristina Bermudez for this article!
